PCJ - Mon Apr 6: Amazon Killed the Show... The Band Lives On 🎸

Prime canceled the show—but the band is still playing.

Happy Monday, Jams fam.

Amazon Prime Video quietly killed a Wilmington-made show last week. The actual band from that show? They're very much alive — Minivan Tour underway, Bonnaroo this summer, and a sold-out House of Blues in Florida. There's a good story there. It's below.

Also: Dustin Lynch hits Live Oak Bank Pavilion this Friday (Apr 10, 7PM).

Amazon Canceled the Show. The Runarounds Are Still Playing. 🎸

Prime Video has canceled The Runarounds after a single season — eight episodes that dropped September 1, 2025 and never got a second act. The show, created by Jonas Pate (the Outer Banks guy), followed a group of recent Wilmington high school graduates who form a rock band and try to make something of it. Filmed here. Set here. Very much us.

The cancellation was quiet — sources say it was decided a couple of months ago, but the announcement only landed last week. Prime Video didn't say much publicly. They rarely do.

Here's the part that matters for this newsletter: the band is real, and they're not stopping. The Runarounds — the actual musicians who performed in the show — are mid-run on their Minivan Tour right now, playing through mid-April. After that: a set at Bonnaroo and a sold-out show at House of Blues in Florida in June. Amazon can cancel whatever it wants. The music survives.

For Wilmington, the story is a little bittersweet. The city's been Hollywood East for decades — Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Sleepy Hollow, a hundred others. Getting a nationally-streamed show set and filmed here, featuring local music culture, was a win. Losing it after one season stings. But if the band keeps going — and they are — that part of the story isn't over.
